I was stunned this morning, when I opened my garden shed and was greeted by hundreds of ladybirds, all clustered around the window.
I'm hoping they're the aphid munching variety.

Aren't you lucky! Let them out and they'll be munching all your white and green-fly. Answer is that eggs have been laid there and also they've been hibernating there.
Oh Lovely! I love ladybirds in the garden but haven't seen any here for many years. I wish they would come back.
I hope they weren't Harlequins?
^^^So do I. We are plagued with them in London.
That's bad news Sharon.
I recently opened a set of French doors that have been closed all winter only to find the bit where the hinges are absolutely infested with ladybirds. Hundreds of them. Horrible. Those that were awake I helped fly away - the rest went up the vacuum cleaner!
They are horrible!!! And they do seem to like windows. I don't know how they get in!!!! Now the weather is getting warmer I am always on the look out for them.
I have no idea at all how they got into the French windows - but they did!
I must admit I don't like them en masse but when they're eating the greenfly on my roses I kinda warm to them.
Must say that I have a soft spot for ladybirds, they always seem to clear my roses of aphids.
I noticed we have several ladybirds in the garden today, I,ve never seen so many, these look like proper ladybirds. I hope they eat ants, we seem to have a lot of those running around in the garden too. Last year we had some very large black ones with big red spots on the wing cases.
I've always liked ladybirds. I'd never intentionally harm them. Maybe lots of ladybirds fits in with my theory that it's going to be a good summer this year - I remember them in the summer of 76
I hope so Tony!
I hope not. Can't bear it that hot. Nor can the dogs.
Noooo I cant stick the really hot weather!!!

Love ladybirds though! send them all to me!

Thank you, all for your replies,

I had a closer look at them this morning, less of them but some big fat spiders, may be the answer there.
I checked on the 'ladybird spotter' (BBC) and they appear to be the 24 spot variety.
I've left the shed door open, to allow them to escape.
