I have now had the opportunity of getting a maybe 9month old Jack Russell again. ( think it is miniature) - not sure.

the owner of the dog is pregnant and has already an older dog and is keeping it.

I have been asked do I want Jack2 and I am so nervous since I am on my own that sometimes think I cannot cope.

I know when he and I becomes pals I will be happy. At the moment my big worry is if he is so young it will be difficult for me to housetrain him - particularly at the moment since it is so cold. He, eventually will be an inside dog.

when I look at Mr Harv and NOT KNOWING - but it was so hard to train him and even after 10 years he still had the odd mistake.

Just wish there was somebody here with me to share the responsibilities.

Do you think I can do it without help. thanks for any replies. JjCon

PS Friends have been saying "oh leave until after Xmas " - Oh What is Xmas -just another Sunday day of eating and drinking. JjCon

You'll be fine Conne, and I wish you a lovely Christmas and happy new year with your new companion xx
hi conn. is it a pup ?
He's probably already at least partly house-trained.

Stop worrying and simply remind yourself that you KNOW how to look after a dog, so there's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't welcome him into your home.
Hey go for it jj I'm sure you'll be fine, I should think that seeing as the dog is 9 months old it should have had some training so maybe it won't need to much training from your good self. I don't think you have any need to be nervous, you and he will soon become good pals.
I'm sure you can do it,but only you can decide if your nervousness is too strong to overcome.

I know you'll make the right decision.x

Knowing my luck - he will be gone - but have rung friend and let her know. Thanks all for support.
ooft sorry conn. I should read the post slower, get the dog please.
Is he castrated?

At nine months he should be toilet trained - maybe some accidents as he is still a baby.

Good luck with your new friend - I am sure that it will all work out :-)
I'm afraid I can't agree that a JR puppy is the right dog, especially a puppy, for you Con. They are high energy, love to be outdoors exploring, inquisitive, down rabbit holes, definitely NOT an indoor dog. I think I remember you saying that you didn't walk your last dog every day but a young JR would not be a happy dog kept under those circumstances. Please wait until you find the right dog for you, a bit older, not a high energy dog like a JR. The right one is out there waiting for you.
Dogs are not like cats. You can't keep them indoors.

i have a photo of him on my email - how can I get it onto here - any idea
Yes, Ladybirder is spot on, Jack Russell's are so hyperactive and "vocal".

ladybirder - harvey done just fine. where I went he went - more so than other unlucky dogs I know - days and days and days of being in a yard. breaks my heart.

//Developed in England some 200 years ago to hunt foxes, the Jack Russell Terrier, also known as the Parson Russell Terrier, is a lively, independent, and clever little dog. He's charming and affectionate, but he's also a handful to train and manage. For experienced dog owners only!//

//The Jack Russell is an energetic breed that relies on a high level of exercise and stimulation and is relatively free from serious health complaints.//
You said he will be an inside dog. You can keep cats inside but not dogs.

Ummmm, I think she means he won't be kept outside in a kennel, not that she will never take him out.
I have had a few JRTs, they really are great dogs, I love them. They are however quite headstrong and not the easiest to train. if you dont train them they can be yappy and snappy and they will rule you!!

Unless you are dedicated to the training and have lots of patience and energy I would avoid a JRT.
Ahhhhhhhh.... :-)
