I once had a pet goldfish that we called Ambrose ( after a famous band leader) & I took him everywhere with me in his little plastic bag that was half full of water. One day we were passing a well known fish & chip shop & they had a notice board advertising Fish Cakes so I went in & asked for a Fish Cake & was told , sorry we are out of stock at the moment. I said oh dear what a great pity ( holding my plastic bag up for view) it's his birthday today.

It was no flaming joke when I couldn't get him a cake on his birthday.
My brother and I got Goldfish when we were young - they didn't last very long.

I'd like a furry companion that takes advantage of my generous nature, ignores me for hours on end, demands to be served only the best food in jelly ....... the list goes on and on and on and

silly me, what am I thinking - I already have the moronic moggies. :-)
I had a pet goldfish a long time ago. We taught it to walk on it's tail so we could take it for walkies on a leash. One day when we were out it was raining and the poor thing slipped, fell into a puddle, and drowned.
I had a goldfish when I was a child... it was amazing it would disappear from the tank, and later on come back looking completely different.....

magic!!!!!
As kids, wet had a pet goldfish who we named smokey but for some reason, he insisted it was Bob.
rowan, I had a hamster like that. It "wasn't well" and suddenly it was back, younger and better again
My dad won me a goldfish at a funfair at Ally Pally. On the way home on the bus I hooked the bag on a bolt on the back of the seat despite being told not to and as the bus went over a bump it fell to the floor, spilling all the water. I was very upset so my dad got off the bus and had to go into a gents toilet to fill it up - but you had to pay a penny and he had no change so had to climb over the toilet door and then walk the rest of the way home!
belated happy birthday to Ambrose
