Cat Flaps

I asked in another area yesterday about cat flaps but just wanted some personal opinions.

I was going to get a magnetic one but having read some reviews of different makes online I'm not sure it's a good idea. My cat doesn't wear a collar at the moment although of course he would have to if I got this type but I've seen numerous people saying the collar picks up screws, etc and that the magnets often break.

But I quite like the idea that other cats won't be able to get in the house while I'm not there. Altough it seems some clever cats can work out how to get in anyway.

I've looked at the microchip ones but getting the glass for the flap is already costing me £300 and I can't afford another £100 for that sort of flap.

So, can anyone reccommend if the magnetic ones are any good or if I should just go for a bog standard flap?

I remember a story of a cat having had her kittens (she was already wearing one of the magnetic ones) the owner decided to fit all the kittens with them,however one morning they awoke to the sound of crying from the kittens.. came downstairs to find them all stuck to the fridge door.

Mine don't wear collars either,i have a "bog standard" flap,and when i'm out,then the cats are in.Couldn't stand intruders getting in and upsetting my oldies-18,17,16.

Thanks all for the advice, convinced the non magnetic is the right decision now. Just hope the little duffer is grateful.

I would never have a cat flap, had one years ago & it caused havoc. Cat caught a pidgeon one day when I was out, brought it in the house it was still alive it got away from her & was flying about the house with cat in full persuit, lamps were knocked over, ornaments smashed curtains ripped, vases of flowers smashed & water soaked carpets. & to top it all a bloody dead carcase of one pidgeon. Other times I had dead mice rats & birds brought in. So now this cat has to wait for me to come home.
