I have two rough collies. One is 9 and the other 11 years old. The older one seems to be struggling when out on a walk and the younger one,his back legs crack an awful lot when he is walking. They have both been on vit. tablets, Pettabs, , from the vets but I feel that they are not really doing much good. Can any other dog owner recommend a good vit. tablet and joint tab. that they have found to work.?

Vitamin tablets will make absolutely no difference to cases of joint problems or arthritis. You could try either Denes Greenleaf tablets, or any of the Glucosamine/Chondtroitin based tablets. Also a Bioflow collar may help.
Plenty to choose from here, you can order online and they will be delivered within a day or so:

I use the following on my 2 year old Great Dane...she has HD, arthritis and growth problems in both her front legs!!!!

Glucosamine [high grade from the vets...payed for by insurance!!!]
Green Lipped Mussel [helps with cartlidge growth]
Devils claw [natural anti- inflamatory]
Omega 3,6,9 capsules

I get the last three from here.....

I use the Omega oils as I was offered a Hills food from the vet [can't remember the name of it], but is was 70 for 15kg and she would have needed approx 1kg per day [you do the maths.....lol. The vet gave a free bag and when I researched the ingredients the only thing of any value that I could see were the omega oils, so I just bought a supplement instead!
I started giving this combination six months or so ago and at the time she needed Metecam at least once a week....she hasn't limped or needed any pain relief in atleast 4 months.

Hope this helps

Many thanks for your replies. I have had a look on both sites you have given me. But realise you can give human tablets to dogs.? How do you go about how much they should have.?
Well seeing as my dog is a Great Dane I just give adult human doses....so you may want to give slightly less for a collie, but it would be pretty hard to over-dose on these products.

our gsd x collie was on a homan dose of glucosamin chronditon and msn for the last 4 years of her life as recommended by our vet and she also wore a bioflow collar both made a great deal of difference to her the tablets took about 6 to 8 weeks to kick in , i used to buy them from agestop on line
