Hedgehogs - how do i attract one

How do i attract a hedgehog into the garden to eat the pesky critters. We dont have any pets and we live in a rural south west town, we have a big playing field at the bottom of the back garden, the area is quite wooded. would this suit?

Hi rosyherb
Do you have hedgehogs in your area. If you do, then dry cat food will attract them.
Put out at night as they are nocturnal creatures. A hedgehog should not be out during the day.
They will also eat all your pesky critters.lol

Cheers for that, i was in a pet shop and noticed specialist hog food.. but don't want to attact Rats (big more than pesky critters) as we are on 2 week collections here.
Hi Rosyherb, Don't forget to put a bowl of water out with the cat biscuits too as you would with any animal on dried food. Hedgehogs really appreciate a nice bowl of fresh water anyway. As for them eating the critters, I have 3 hedgehogs that come to eat in my garden every year and they never bother eating any critters from what I can make out anyway. Maybe Im just feeding them too well and they cant manage anything else.
hedgehogs also love tinned dog food give that a try x
