I'm not going to let my dog lick my hand again after seeing it wolf down what the neighbouring cat left. It can't be hungry, what's the reason for doing this?

Google - why does my dog eat cat poo. :-)

I am off back to bed.
It's not unusual in the animal world Sandy. They pick up lots of minerals and protein in "poop".

Just don't let it lick your face ;-)
Well, you wouldn't want to eat your own poo, would you.

Indeed not. But as I said here in AB a while back I did develop a taste for a beaker of steaming pee until I discovered I was the victim of a cruel April Fool joke. ☺
Nope Old Geezer, don't think I'd want to eat any one elses either.
You just made me laugh Sandy..
Thanks for that ;-)
Maybe it's pregnant?
Question Author
Unlikely. She's an old dog, about 9 or 10 I think, and apart from that has no opportunity for canine canoodling.
It is pretty common, it is called Coprophagia. The best way is to keep her on a lead or learn to move faster than her to stop her. Or stop the blasted cat from making unwanted deposits. :-)
Why do people let dogs lick their hands and face? Not only do they eat cat and other poo, they lick their bums and eat their own sick.
Years ago a neighbours rather big dog used to get into my garden and eat my cats poo from the litter tray which I kept in the garden. I saw it do this several times when I got home from work before I had a chance to clean the tray out. I told the neighbours but they were not bothered!
I remember seeing a programme on the tele ages ago where, somewhere in the middle of nowhere in Africa, mothers were letting the dogs that roamed around this sort of compound where they lived, lick their babies bottoms clean after defecating. Hey presto, clean bottom and satisfied protein filled dog;-)
