Electronic Dog Gate: Two Questions

Can anyone recommend an electronic alternative to fitting a metal gate? No other part of the property needs protecting, just the 12 feet gap between two walls.
However, is there any risk that an electronic system might frighten my nervous collie to the point he might never go through that gap (when I turn it off and want to take him for a walk)?

Yes there is and also that in his panic he may run through it and run away, or then not be able to get back. Electrics and dogs do not mix because you cannot explain to them how they work. If your dog is nervous there is even more reason to keep him contained safely, as he may run away or even bite someone if he was cornered so please get a decent gate put up.
