kittens first day outside

Hi, I have a kitten of almost 6 months old, who is amost 3 wks post op of having being spayed. Is she old enough to go outside now? and has it been long enough after her op? I feel that she needs more space to run around and climb instead of been stuck in the house. We have a massive field behind our home, that is waiting to be explored by her. I would appreciate to know what is acceptable in the best interest of the kitten. Thank you

to be on the safe side ring the vet who did the op and ask them.
I hope she enjoys her new found freedom and doesnt bring you back too many "presents".

When you do let kitty out you'll find she won't move far from your door at first. But each time she will go a little farther. My girl is 5 years old now and is always in hearing distance.

You're right Dee sa, asking the vet is the safest bet. I was hoping someone on here may have expert knowledge. The vet's closed and my young one is chomping at the bit to play with the kitty outside, not like the kit will stay I'm sure she'll be off like a flash.

Make sure your little moggy is micro-chipped...just in case she's the wandering kind. It will give you some peace of mind.

Hi katburd, bless you and thank you. I googled it also but the info differed, I think my main concern is her age, I'm confident that she has healed very well, I'm just unsure to whether she is old enough to be out alone.

Hi pastafreak, she is chipped, and has had all her shots but all that said and done, I do need to worm and flea treat her. Whoops! best get that sorted first.

I was trying to remember how I dealt with all this when my cats were younger, I think I sat outside with them with a cat harness on them, and one of those extending leads, just to let them be out in the garden, but supervised at all times :)

I know Katburd, it seems daft that I'm asking this question as I've had cats before but I can't remember how old they were when I first let them out. I will be outside with her. Maybe in the back of my mind I'm concerned that I do what is acceptable. I've decided it won't be this weekend as I have forgotten to flea and worm her, so i've just ordered the treament. Wouldn't want uninvited visitors into the house. In the past I have never had my cats chipped but as one of my neighbours donated one of my cats to an animal charity, for rehoming, I thought I'd better have this one chipped. We were new neighbours to her at the time, and she never thought to ask if the cat was ours, instead she had her daughter take it into the animal welfare. We found out a week too late, and little Levi had already been re homed. The old lady that re homed her was very happy with her, thank you very much! so didn't want to part with her, we too were happy with her for 9 years. Anyway, thank you all for your suggestions.

I wish you and your little one will be very happy together, microchip is a very good idea.
