is it ok to hang a turkey carcass from a highish branch for the birds to peck at, thus keeping it away from four legged animals, ie my two Labs?

Sorry- isn't that some form of cannibalism?

Ha, I hadn't thought of it that way. But, really?
I think you will find that all the vermin in your neighbourhood will converge on your property.
Sure our feathered friends will love it chrissa, they'll think all their Christmases have come at once!.........
I'd say soup or the bin is a better bet!
If you put it there in the morning, I think the birds will pick it clean in a few hours, so the vermin will stand little chance, you can then remove it before nightfall........

With regards to the vermin, that's why i would hang it up. No?
Would it be possible for you to video your labs being driven nuts by the out of reach food source? They do like their food .

;-)
I think it's ok to do so just for a day, and then whether or not the birds have eaten all of the meat, I would remove it and dispose of it, otherwise it will surely atract vermin chrissa
I put my turkey carcass on the lawn every year - it is picked clean by the next day, I don't mind what had it.

That's what I thought all. Thanks very much. A One Day Feast coming up.
I find the vision of a turkey hanging upside down from a suspended turkey carcass and pecking the meat off somewhat bizarre Sherrardk.

A bit late now, but I would put it in the bin.......Cooked bones are NOT ok for cats/wild animals as they can splinter, turkey skin is lethal for birds if salt has been rubbed into the skin. Turkey fat is also unsuitable as it doesnt harden and gets smears onto their feathers.
