Dunnet Head is the most northerly point on the UK mainland, and Lizard Point is the most southerly. Finding the latitude of both from Google Earth, and doing an online distance calculation for the difference in latitudes gives 601.98 miles. This calculation assumes that the Earth is spherical, whereas it is slightly flatter than that in the northern hemisphere, including the UK. This will result in a small error in the calculated distance. (+/- 0.3%).
Oh! If you want to include the islands, Old Stack is a rocky islet and is the most northerly point of the UK on the Shetland Isles, while Pednathise Head is the most southerly point of the Isles of Scilly. Using the calculator as before gives a north-south distance of 759.94 miles.
