How do I get rid of these flies??!

Yesterday morning I came downstairs to find around 15 flies spread between our living room and kitchen. The worst thing was, I didn't even realise they were there until I went to open the blinds! So I got a bottle of fly killer, the natural stuff, and covered the entire kitchen, a bit much I know but I was grossed out. Came back in 15 mins later and they were all dead on the floor, GREAT! Two hours later, there were even more flies than before. So I decided the clean the whole house, I dusted, vacuumed, polished, disinfected and bleached all around the house (It took me about 7 hours) I have never worked so hard in my life!

After all that hard work, I didn't find any food, nests or anything else gross which shouldn't be there. So, please tell me HOW ON EARTH TO GET RID OF THESE FLIES!! I'm asking you this because there are even more today :(

Help me please, they are leaving footprints everywhere which means they have been on something gross, but I haven't a clue what it is.

Please, please, please :)

there must have been maggots laid somewhere that have now hatched to flies.... you need to just keep killing them- and getting rid of them.... if you find one room that has the most in - chances are thats the room they are originating from - could be behind furniture... behind a kitchen unit?

chances are you wont find the actual source - but just keep killing them and eventually it'll end!
they could just be coming up through a crack in the floorboards (happened to me) - if you could find the source you could attack it directly.

Do you think it's possible that it has something to do with the house being built on an old cattle market? Our estate is only a few feet away from a field!
well, if there's a heap of manure next to your fence, that could be a clue. But flies don't come from nowhere. Find how they're doing it and block it. It could be a very small gap somewhere. Maybe you need CCTV in your kitchen!
Is it possible that some small rodent has died nearby? We've had one die in the motor housing of the fridge. They may come inside during warm weather when you leave the door open.

After a couple of days of all the household members quizzingly looking at each other the smell got foul and a thorough investigation to the offending smell made us pull the fridge forward. You'd have never thought.
I found the best way to keep flies out of my kitchen was to put a bucket of sh1t in my front room.
