Arable land

The snow has shown a 6acre field nr homestead divided into 30' squares. The snow has iced on the line divisions.

Any ideas?

My first thought was seed testing in individual plots. The tilled plots with looser soil would allow snow to melt more easily, while the compacted soil of the line divisions would slow up melting. Hmm. Maybe.

would it be ridge & furrow.....though it's not undulating land as there are livestock on it. Cant be underground drainage as the top end of field is now flooded with seagulls floating.

The land has never been developed.
With 30ft squares it's unlikely to be ridge and furrow - they ploughed the whole length of the field, as shown here. Intriguing. If it's nearby, why not ask the farmer?

Could this land be an ancient settlement???

are you in the US or UK? Your reference to homestead makes it sound like the US- in which case most of us on here wont know!

UK and we do have 'homestead' marked on ancient deeds.....we taught you English ;)
