Blackbirds nesting in an impossible location!!
Our estate is about 10 and we hve lived in this house about 8 years.
When we moved in the back ( which is small) was just grass and I have tried to develop a bird frienly garded and have succeeded so far. But no nests! Till last week.
A pair of blackbirds have nested in a Clematis "Montana" about 3 ft from the back door and we cannot avoid walking past it.
This morning there was one cold egg in it and I am ****** right off.
I know that Blackbirds have nested in neighbours gardens earlier and thought they would have finished by now. So why would they go to the bother of building a nest then deserting it just as quickly in the first week in June.

Blackbirds are notorious for building several nests and leaving eggs in more than one

As heathfield says- they do it regularly. The fact its near your back door is neither here nor there- dont beat yourself up- it wont be you disturbing them that moved them on.

It's near your door because blackbirds often like to build against a wall or close to a building. Don't feel bad - it's unlikely that you put them off.
You could try getting a blackbird nest box and putting it up in a suitable position. Have a look on the Web, especially at the RSPB site or CJ Wildbird foods for info. as to what to get and where to site it.
