No seriously, with petrol being the price it is I walk more and group car outings as much as I can. I also wear a jumper in the house in winter and only heat to 19°C.

Absolutely nothing.

I believe that the planet's climate has been cyclical since its inception, and that 'global warming' is a natural process.

As an individual, I can do nothing what ever to adjust the climate, and i don;t feel the need to make myself feel better by a few futile gestures to show other people how 'sensitive' I am.

The government makes noises about this issue and does precicely nothing practical at all. China is building coal-fired power stattions at the rate of one a week, and a single transatlatic flight creates the equivalent carbon emmission of the manufacture of one million carrier bags.

So I ignore everything to do with this media-manufactured political bandwaggon, unless anyone uses the ludicrous term 'carbon footprint' in my hearing, whereupon the red mists decends, and unpleasant things happen. One way to avoid useless use of energy is not to say 'carbon footprint' within thirty feet of where I am standing.

I agree andy, but by being careful on paying less out for gas, oil, petrol prices no matter what ,we're helping out aren't we? even though that's not our intention. we're just saving ourselves money.

Way-to-go Andy. Nice to hear from someone else who's not taken in by the media and Government propaganda.

No problem woofgang - nice to see you!

I expected a barrage of argument for my observation, but it seems not.

I fumed yesterday at paying 5p for a carrier bag in M & S - and yes, I could have taken a bag with me, but having grown up in the 'disposable' society, I am not yet in the habbit of so doing.

Why can't supermarkets provide bio-degradable paper sacks as American supermarkets have done for fifty years?
It couldn't be anything to do with profit, rather than 'the environment' could it? Or am I just being cynical - again.

well I am up for the carrier thing because they don't rot and I have been at sea myself and seen the amount of human produced garbage that is out there...and this was around 25 years ago! ....agree about paper bags tho!
btw, new rules on what ships can and cannot dispose of by throwing it into the sea apparently is giving certain seabirds probs as the food garbage tossed away used to be a rich source of nourishment for them. On ships that I was on, the crew used to toss the garbage unwrapped and we all enjoyed watching the birds feed behind the ship

Oh for goodness sake not more Global warming is a conspiracy guff!

I don't know why I bother but

http://royalsociety.org/page.asp?id=6229

your point about climate being cyclical is covered under "misleading argument 1"

I do agree though that all of us switching off our TV's won't make a damn bit of difference and what is needed is tough political decisions.

However in a world where everybody now screams when the price of fuel goes up I'm not hopeful

Who wants to prevent it.....bring it on and get a free sun tan!

Tis just a Govt ploy to bleed us tax payers and create work for quangos!
