Does anyone know what that advert is all about with regards to the dog (who alternates between looking terrified and trembling like a plate of jelly to mouthing the words of a song in the passenger seat of the car) can't remember what the car is but the song playing is that "Im a man ,yes I am and I can't help but love you so"

They say that the Polo gives you confidence, so when you see the dog out of the car, that's how it is normally. When you see it singing in the car, it's full of confidence. It's the same dog though.
I guess.

Yeah, Judge Nutmeg is spot on. A guy from the agency that did the advert says:
“The idea came from that feeling you get when you’re in the shower. You’re relaxed, you don’t have a care in the world and, regardless of your ability, you can feel free to belt out any song that comes to mind. This is how it feels to drive around in the safety of the Polo.”

Cheers for your answers, How would they get the dog to tremble and shake like that and look completely petrified, drug it?

I don't know, I was wondering how they got it to sing.

I think they can do that easily enough with computer techniques (or was you making a joke there?) but apart from scaring the dog how would you make it tremble so badly and show all the signs of being a very frightened dog? I find it really uncomfortable to watch.

The shiver in the dogs legs was a simple special effect involving a vibrating pad in the floor..

Thanks nig, I thought it more than likely to be some sort of special effects technique (for one Im sure the animal rights brigade would be jumping up and down otherwise) but it just looked so real, everything about the dogs appearance looked like it was genuinely afraid (its tail between its legs and the position of its ears). I just needed to be re-assured that it could be done by special effects. Cheers. Still don't like watching it though and it certainly doesn't make me feel like buying a Polo.

hi
the effects were achieved by making the dog cold. By making the dog cold it wil adopt that pose; tail betwen legs, shivering, hunched up etc.

All to sell a friggin car, I wonder how many people did find it funny? and how many folks who were planning to buy a new car actually felt like going to buy a Polo? Im not aversed to animals being used in advertisements and there are many humorous ones that make you smile, but that particular one just isn't funny.

On a commercials set there at least 2 dog handlers and an independent vet...The well being of the animal is paramount to the agency. So I doubt very much if the dog was subjected to any cold treatment..I was involved in the shooting of a banner ad for this client who told me how the tremble was achieved..They take animal welfare very seriously

Oh, and that Skoda cake advert - I met a guy who actually drove that car!
He said the engine is really sweet
The windows keep icing up
and the brakes are really spongey.

my border terrier trembles like the dog in the ad whenever he's excited, not frightened about anything
