Full of adverts for diñner venues. Would they need to be booked so early?

Oh, thanks for that, Chico. I thought that the tilde was just a dirty mark on my screen and I've spent the last 30 minutes trying to wipe it clean!

Round here you have to have booked and paid by the end of september and the posher the place the earlier the booking....no idea why and no I don't go.
Yes!!! When I was working we had one person in charge of arranging the xmas festivities and we always had a place booked by October.
The top London restaurants (and some 'celebrity chef' places) can be booked up well over a year in advance. Even some pubs (with a good reputation locally for the quality of their food) can be hard to book for Christmas at this time of the year.

However 'diñner venues' (with that curious tilde) presumably serve paella on Christmas Day anyway ;-)

LOL @ JD33!
Better get the sprouts on then.
My local Co-op started selling boxes of Mince Pies over the August Bank Holiday weekend....with a sell-by date of early October !
not long to go....many places all booked up here....
Most places round here are already fully booked for Christmas Day.
Mikey...mince pies are on sale all year round.
Can I make a suggestion?

In the week before Christmas, I used to have a monumental staff booze up in the office for all comers - staff, customers , suppliers and friends (I would go home drunk with a load of unclaimed stinking pheasant from our shoot)

After Christmas, I organised the real Christmas do. The restaurants weren't packed out, and they were so glad to see us, we got good rates too. And no flaming cardboard turkey to be seen!

Wives had got the Christmas effort over, and were relaxed.

The first time I did it, there were rumblings, but ever after, so many people thanked me for the inspiration.

Give it a try....

My brother has his diamond wedding on Christmas Eve.He couldn't get anything for that date and had to plump for the 20th and he booked it in February !
Places round here are fully booked for christmas festivities by August.
ach sandy, just pity those poor souls who have no home to go to on Christmas Day of all days ;)

Aye, right enough, Humber. We'll hae meat and a place to eat it, and sae the Lord be thankit.
Ummm...maybe they are, although I can't recall seeing boxes of them with holly berries and Xmas trees on them in June.
This is the season to make lolly at 50 quid a plate would rather have a bite of summit at home with the weecalf mob
From what I can gather, Xmas lunch is very expensive in a Pub or restaurant, and anyway, if you have a family to spend it with, why go out ?

Most years, I am invited to my brothers house for the day, and I wouldn't miss my sister-in-laws cooking for any posh restaurant !

But I do wonder how people who are completely alone in the world manage on Xmas Day......can't be very nice for them.
If you're cooking for a quite a few people then the cooks day is spent in the kitchen.
If there are plenty of willing helpers Ummm, than use them ! ( even if they aren't willing ! )
