That's a beaut from Bute House!
I believe our beloved First Miniature qualified her earlier statements with something along the lines of 'in the terms of the debate'.

In any case, it's typical political grandstanding gone wrong. Beware though, she doesn't like to be crossed or questioned, her being infallible and all that.
She doesn't like 'gimmicky questioning'.
Has Nicolas Sturgeon actually said she will not now be taking any refugees?
I get the impression that Frau Sturgeon is not exactly flavour of the month among certain sections of the Scottish public.
AOG

If she said that in the first place then she made a huge mistake. One of the key capabilities a politician must have is the ability to be able to think on their feet.

When someone says, "So - if you're in favour of the UK taking in refugees, how many are you going to house?"

No-one should feel bad about saying, "None" because it's a stupid question. A question without any merit.

There are many who state (rightly) that it's a scandal that there are homeless war veterans on the streets - but how many of those people have opened their homes to them?

Were Bob Geldolf and Yvette Cooper stupid for answering in the affirmative?
...only if they didn't mean it.
Is it possible that her husband said 'I don't want strangers in the house' so, like a good little wifie she sacrificed her principles for him? (I'm trying!)
Jourdain, I think wifey will wear the troosers ;)
I think that Sturgeon is becoming Scotland's Thatcher. She seem to be loved and loathed in equal measure.

No - they are not stupid for offering, but it doesn't make the question any less stupid for their actions.

...or rather their stated intent.

Let's see if they actually follow through.

But I maintain...the idea of someone who approves of Britain taking in refugees being asked, "Well, how many will you take into your house?" is just dumb.

Dumber than a roomful of Joey Essexes.
SP // One of the key capabilities a politician must have is the ability to be able to think on their feet.//

Sometimes one can overthink on their feet and get so carried away that they forget to sing the National Anthem....
agchristie

Okay...that's a bit of a curve ball, but if you're talking about Jeremy Corbyn, he was absolutely right not to sing the National Anthem in those circumstances.

If he HAD sung it, he would have been a hypocrite.

AOG - sorry that your thread has taken a detour here.
...in which case he should have politely declined to attend the event in the first place, citing previous engagements. That's the art of politics.
Back to the OP. Perhaps she saw sense?

Besides I doubt anyone will be housing refugees.
She probably fears that there won't be enough to go around. We're not letting many in.
^ put her name down in 1001 position?

Don't worry they will all be comfortably housed within hours of arriving in this country.

Houses, just like money, (both of which the powers that be are always complaining they haven't got enough of), are soon found were foreigners are concerned.
