My understanding of Legal Expenses Policies is they will not offer cover for disputes that arose before the insurance was taken out.
Is this across the board? or do some take on disputes that have already arisin within a certain time frame before policy ie 3 months before?

I doubt it, otherwise people would wait until they had a dispute before taking out the insurance which would play merry hell with the insurers income.

Similar to purchasing fire insurance and expecting a previous fire to be covered and paid for.

As Woofgang says impossible.
