But today, I have saved myself £183 by not accepting my car insurance renewal quote. I used the meerkats to help me search for a cheaper but equivalent option.

Coo eee!
Well done Tilly - obviously the little varmints come in handy sometimes.
did they drive in your grandmother's day;-)
Well Done Tilly 2. It is obviously a good way to follow the Meercats rather than follow the renewals.

I usually just keep going with the same company. I won't do that in future.
Unfortunately, the deals you get with comparison websites aren't all they're cracked-up to be:

I've never used them.

Well, I'm happy to have saved myself a lot of money.
Wait till next year ;0) .....and make sure you get your cuddly Alexzandr
Question Author
I have insured my car with The Post Office. I don't want a cuddly toy!
yup, I check every year, home insurance and car insurance.

.....and next year, I will shop around again.
Tilly, I reckon we've saved about £250 this last year for all our insurances by making a few phone calls. My other half keeps a record and were now paying about the same as we paid in 2005 for them. Got to be worth a few phone calls and a bit of time...
You pay for convenience and simple renewal.

What annoys me is the cheek some have of renewing without your permission to take your money in the first place. Theft should be illegal.
when you use comparison sites, remember to check Aviva, Zurich and Directline as well, as they don't appear in the comparisons. We've almost always found Directline the cheapest but I don't know how good they'd be if I actually had to claim from them.

Martin Lewis ranks the meerkats fourth

It took me probably thirty minutes in all to search for quotes and then ring up to actually buy the insurance from the Post Office. I then took great pleasure in ringing my current insurers, Sainsbury's Bank, to tell them I wouldn't be renewing. They asked what quote I had been given and admitted that they could not match that.

Another galling thing was that for the first two years with them I got double nectar points on all my card uses but after two years this stopped. Serves them right!
Hey well done, Yilly. Are you going to treat yourself with the savings ?.
Question Author
Probably, Yont. Or I might save it towards my next holiday.
What's the excess?
