Those getting around the language filter

If someone swears on here it is removed by your filter - after all, it isn't wanted here. Why do we still have people repeatedly replacing certain letters with other characters to get around this filter? For example, @ instead of a, 5 instead of s. Most of the time the edited version leaves very little to the imagination as to what the word should actually be and I'm sure others find this as offensive as the words being spelt the right way. Why not have something like a 24 or 48 hour ban on the account from posting and the offending post being removed?

i agree with you ZebUK. the necessity to swear even in replacement characters just demonstrates an inability to operate a sensible conversation and lack of control on ones emotions.

Come on Ed, how about it?

I agree as well- take this for example...

Now i kinda like the Doc (oh ok, he's bearable, in small doses ;-) ) But there's no need to use that kind of language, especially in the title of the post.

I appreciate the fact that because of the number of permutations of spellings and characters available something automatic wouldn't be possible but there's a feature you have to report abusive posts.

I'm not sure of the structure of your site & staff but I'm presuming we have moderators here to deal with the results from the "Report" button?

If it is in the question then anyone offended should use the report button, but if its in the answer then unless the offended person emails the ed/techies then theres probably no way round it.

Yes but not much gets done - at least from what I've seen so far.

As for replies to existing questions then we need the report function back for replies as well as topics.

Temporary posting bans tend to make people think about what they're typing.

yeah I totally agree about the report answer button making a comeback.

Not sure if a ban would be any good though, those doing it would probably just make a new name until the ban is up.
