Maggie, if you post in a busy topic, the question can be off the page within an hour and probably buried forever.
On quieter topics, you will find answers appearing quite a few days later.
I suppose a lot depends on the question, maybe some people feel they don't have the experience or knowledge you require.
Keep posting until you get a satisfactory reply.

I agree however depending on the category your asking in might also have a bearing. Eg: Music I sometimes look under unanswered questions.

Thanks for the replies, sometimes I may have a question which doesn’t seem to come under any of the categories. Would you suggest putting it in chatterbank and hope for the best?

you can put it in chatterbank, but be prepared to receive some errr how shall we say lighter hearted answers that may not help too much. though you will also get people trying to offer genuine answers.

If you do put a question in the wrong category then the AB Team, who's worked tremendously hard in the Ed's absence :-) will place it in the correct location.
(BTW. ED's back now, welcome back ED)

Also if you click on the word 'Topics' at the top left, in red then that will open up all categories for you. Surely one might be appropriate for your question.
