No, Mum still alive and kicking. But Ummmm is right, question similar to that can be unintentionally upsetting.

No idea what she'll get. Something very last minute I imagine!

It happened to me a few times after Dad died. Bumped into people I hadn't seen for ages and they asked about him. It's embarrassing for both parties explaining.
