Has anyone else noticed that their computers are running rather slow today?

Different topics on AnswerBank are slow on loading, and when I type the letters take a second or so to appear, even the mouse pointer sometimes take a while to appear, and it's scrolling ability is slow to work.

Yup - I blame it on the 'Lympics' !!
When you say your "computer is running slow" I think you mean your broadband not your computer.

AB is fine for me.

Have you tested your BB speed with a BB tester to get a rough idea how it is performing.
mine seems OK for the time of day as well.

Yes you could be right but I always thought Virgin Broadband was the fastest on offer.
AOG _ Yes, I thought that too.

Actually my local Virgin Media shop manager has told me that they are rolling out free of charge up to 30Mb to every customer who is currently on 10Mb.
This is an excellent site for testing your Broadband speeds and will keep a graphs of your results.

If typed letters are taking a few moments to display, it's got nothing to do with your internet speed. It means that something's hogging your CPU's processing power.

When the problem occurs, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to access the Task Manager. Click the 'Processes' tab and look down the CPU column. With the exception of System Idle Process, nothing should normally be into double figures. If anything else is showing high CPU usage, that's the cause of your problem.
AOG... by the sounds of your recent posts I'd seriously suggest it sounds like it's time to back all your documents up and reinstall windows on your computer. and start from fresh.
My lovely welshman who's a wizz with electrix has installed LED cable to my modem, its now super fast.

What The Funicular ^
I know chuck....I thought that without the f word :)
No I will stick with the F word, as in that cable will make F all difference.
I'll find out more when I see him again. I've been having probs for last 3months with BT modem & this cable has sorted it.
Chuck - It's Tambourine.
True...

AOG, I've worked in IT for about 20 years and managed to become the IT manager for a medium sized company, since we have been bought out I'm now senior IT engineer for an international company..... believe me when I say a cable with pretty lights recommended by a hairdresser is a load of rubbish!

My professional opinion is from the questions I've seen you post recently is it's time to backup your docs, reinstall the operating system on your computer and start again.
Tambo...

If he would like to email his opinion on why that cable makes such a difference he is welcome to. it's marksngc "at" live.co.uk

I'd love to hear what he has to say.
oooo that's sarky chuck.

This cable sorted my problem but I dont understand why nor did BT have the tekky ability to sort it for me.
I will send you a report from him.....soon. Maybe you will then stop deriding hairdressers
ps there are no lights
I needn't say anything else. anyone with an ounce of knowledge is already laughing.
